Expansion of a commercial data center

The client, a large scale commercial data center, was expanding its existing data center facilities and needed support with procurement of construction and equipment to build out the second phase of the facilities.

PIR was engaged to source necessary equipment and services, secure that procurement investment budget and timelines were met and that competitive contracts were established to futureproof the clients’ investments

The procurement scopes included areas like power, cooling, security, whitespace, racks etc., as well as project management, construction and commissioning services.

PIR supported the client in developing its overall sourcing strategy, and lead the tenders and negotiations in the following sourcing activities.

Supplier market analysis was carried out and procurement packages were developed based on client needs resulting in 10+ tenders. These tenders were carried out during a 6-month period to deliver 10+ frame agreements, enabling the client to execute on an aggressive expansion timeline.

The PIR team leveraged its well-proven contract templates to improve the client's contract terms and provide protection also in future expansions. In addition, the project enabled the client to achieve 1.9 MEUR savings vs investment budget.
